The GNT Champs 2011/2012 was held at the Pretoria West Power Station on Sunday the 27 of November 2011. It is the third year that the event has been staged at this venue.

The GNT Senior Age Group race started at 7:00 am with the Junior GNT Champs, being held at 12:00 pm. The mid-day start for the juniors would ensure that they were hungry and eager to race having waited and watch the senior events taking place throughout the morning.

The early morning conditions were perfect for triathlon, the water temperature was 19 degrees, allowing for a wet suit swim. The first swimmer exited the water in just over 20 min which laid the platform for a quick bike and run leg. The Overall Age group winner in a time of 2:07:40 was Nico Sterk, with the Female winner being Chrissie Viljoen in a time of 2:30:02.

The bike and run routes were well laid out, giving the cyclist and runner an opportunity to make the most of their personal strengths. The bike leg started with a long gradual climb of approximately 6km heading out towards Laudium before turning left through Voortrekker Hoogte and back down again to Yskor and the race venue. It was a 2 lap course with a strong following wind for much of the route.

The Run course was laid out around the Race venue with a slight undulating profile. This gave the specialist runners the opportunity to pull away from the field and separate the men from the boys.

The Junior Champs was held over the same course as the seniors, with the juniors completing only one lap of the bike route and two laps of the run course. The younger age groups within the junior category had a slightly modified cycle leg which kept them closer to the race venue. Their run course was shortened in keeping in line with the specific age group requirements. The junior category winners were as follows:

16-19 Age Group:
Male : Eddie Van Heerden 01:01:57
Female : Charne Prinsloo 01:15:29

12-15 Age Group:
Male : Ruan Van Zyl 00:31:38
Female : Robyn-liegh Jones 00:32:23

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Johnson & Johnson (Sport Rehidrat) for their wonderful sponsorship of Rehidrat on the day.
